The engineering behind live television on the internet.
For nearly two decades, Velostream's engineers have designed, built and operated streaming systems for the largest names in film and television. The video management system at the center of that work is the subject of U.S. Patent No. 12,581,137.
Selected work
Platforms we designed, built and ran.
Live and on-demand systems for studios, networks and streaming services, from the headend to the app on the television.
Vidgo
A live television service with more than 500 channels, dynamic ad insertion and applications on every major device. One of only six over-the-top platforms certified to carry ESPN networks. Designed, built and operated by the Velostream team.
Fox
A streaming platform built after the Disney transaction, engineered to reduce cost and simplify operations. More than a decade earlier, a private screening network that streamed films for Rupert Murdoch to buyers around the world.
Disney and ESPN
Streaming platform engineering, and the technical and compliance certification required to carry ESPN networks over the top, achieved as an independent operator.
College streaming
A fully automated streaming service for colleges, built by our team and licensed for $30 million.
U.S. Patent No. 12,581,137 B2
The patent.
Granted March 17, 2026 to inventor Stephen Hird, Velostream's chief technology officer, for the video management system the team designed, built and operated during Velostream's engagement with Vidgo.
One system handles live signals and file-based media in a single automated pipeline. Independent claim 1 describes a method that:
- builds a dynamic transcoding profile for each source that preserves the original resolution rather than forcing it onto a fixed ladder;
- applies the requested security at ingest, encrypts the output files and uploads them to a content delivery network;
- converts and carries the metadata through the pipeline;
- serves multiple viewing groups from the same asset, each with its own expiration date;
- updates, retains and expires content automatically, without operator intervention.
